An accomplished poet and researcher, Medhi’s writings have appeared in reputed journals and periodicals and have also been broadcast through state radio. She has contributed more than twenty research-oriented articles on social dynamics to Payobhora, a publication associated with the Planning Commission. She subsequently made her debut as a lyricist and producer with the acclaimed musical composition Mouna Prithivit.
Her contribution to Assamese literature was formally recognized by the Government of Assam with the Youth Writer Award in 2025. Her creative journey in documentary filmmaking has likewise received recognition at national and international film festivals. Her documentaries, Haatkatha and Salmora: A River Diary, explore themes of heritage, community, culture, traditional livelihoods, and the intimate relationship between people and their environment, and have received awards at various film festivals.
In 2025, Medhi founded Hansadhwani, an eco-socio-cultural non-profit organization dedicated to environmental conservation, social welfare, cultural preservation, education, and community engagement. Through the organization, she continues to conceptualize and lead initiatives centred on nature, culture, heritage, social responsibility, and sustainable community development.
Her literary works have been translated into Hindi, English, and Bengali, extending the reach of her creative expression beyond Assamese literature. Her work across literature, journalism, broadcasting, cinema, research, culture, and social action reflects a sustained engagement with the intersection of creativity, society, environment, and heritage.
Through storytelling, filmmaking, research, and cultural expression, Sangeeta Medhi seeks to document lived experiences, preserve collective memory, amplify community voices, and contribute meaningfully to social and environmental change.
