First Initiative Organised
“Hansadhwani: an eco-socio cultural organisation”—a newly established non-governmental organisation in the socio-cultural and environmental sector—an exceptional event was held on December 13 at the “Garhbhanga Parijat Academy” for students living below the poverty line.
During the event, over fifty books covering various topics suitable for adolescents were distributed among nearly eighty-three students. Additionally, warm clothes, steel plates, and drawing supplies were distributed.
It is worth noting that Garhbhanga Parijat Academy is a residential, ashram-like school located in Garhbhanga village, situated beyond the Garhbhanga Forest Reserve. The school’s principal, Prakash Sharma, leads a dedicated life, taking on the heavy responsibility of managing around one hundred individuals, including students, teachers, and staff, through immense struggle. He provides shelter and meals by building separate hostels for both boys and girls, working tirelessly to build their futures. Notably, the school has not yet received support from any government schemes. They fulfill their power needs by generating electricity using solar energy and biogas.
In this area, where wild animals block the roads at night, there is no mobile network service. The communication system becomes somewhat manageable only through the network accessible from neighboring Meghalaya. Donations received from various individuals at different times serve as a true blessing for this residential school.
*”Hansadhwani,”* a nature, art, and cultural organisation dedicated to nurturing students’ talents through various initiatives and addressing diverse issues affecting social life, is the brainchild of Sangeeta Medhi, a resident of the Mikirghuli (Gakhir Chowk) area in West Boragaon. This event marks the realization of a long-cherished dream.
Significantly, according to the president of the voluntary organisation “Hansadhwani,” social worker Bhumidhar Das, and secretary Sangeeta Medhi, various initiatives aimed at environmental protection will be undertaken by Hansadhwani in the coming year. Plans include inter-school quiz competitions, slogan competitions, debate competitions, short play competitions, and action plans to address various critical environmental issues and their solutions.
It is worth mentioning that active members of the organisation—Barnajit Das, Kapil Sharma, and Barasha Talukdar—were present at this inaugural programme organised by Hansadhwani.
